Over the past 20 years, I have immersed myself in fields leading to Book Arts, including papermaking, fiber arts, printmaking, writing and pottery. I work simultaneously on multiple projects in a variety of mediums such as threaded drawings, monotype prints and digital design.Technology frees me. Unlike artists who design by hand and subsequently mass produce their work, I harness my camera, computer and sewing machine as drawing tools and then hand bind the resulting images into book art.
My books are textural, relating to their emotional content. Self-expression, self-involvement, and self-mockery often provide the content, while words and images flesh out subtle realities . My books prod at the underbelly of what we feel, do not say, or dare not admit to ourselves.
Whether typed, painted, drawn or sewn , my lines, like my words, are a dance between the written and the drawn, seeking transcendence as they emerge into shape or dissolve into texture. The point of resolution comes when line becomes literary and word becomes art. Conceptually driven, my books disclose the personal, hoping that in idiosyncratic truths, the universal can be found. |
