LP Diary

LP Diary, 2009

LP Albums, Mylar, Living Hinges, Thread, Museum Board, Bookcloth

one of a kind

LP Diary is a memoir embedded within music. Its pages consist of old records from my collection which had particular meaning to me at points in my life.

Once upon a time, the quotients of experience - time, place and emotion –combined to imprint their textures upon me. Through a fourth quotient, music, LP Diary revisits the very places where these experiences once bred. Hidden in the grooves of shiny vinyl, music awakens what lay dormant and threads me back to myself, linking past to present.

Sewn drawings - ocean waves, a weeping willow, spokes of wheels with crushed leaves stuck within - veil the records. Thread and texture, like sound, sing the stories I tell in the text at the base of each album. The images are clues on a treasure hunt, a map to my memory.

LP Diary is one person’s story of everybody’s music.
